BAHA - bone anchored hearing aid
 |
Children born with middle- or outer ear injury, the inner ear function often works perfectly. In such cases BAHA can be a solution, which helps conduct the sounds directly to the hearing nerve without using the auditory channel.
|
BAHA consists of a bone implanted, 3-4 mm titanium inner unit and an external sound processor. Because the skull of children is is much thinner and softer than that of adults, experts do not suggest to carry out BAHA implantation until the bones grow strong. Instead of the surgery a so called Softband can be used to wear the sound processor. This is a flexible band which can be adjusted to the size of the head and the sound processor can be connected with just one snap. The band keeps the processor in place for the bone conducted hearing. Thus BAHA is a solution from early childhood, and at a later age it can be finalised with the surgery.
Indication: - Bone conduction treshold max. 60dB
- Conductive and mixed hearing loss
- Chronic otitis
- Single sided deafness
- Other disfunctions of the auditory channel
- Children above 5 years
Sound processors: All 3 BAHA sound processors can be connected to audio-visual devices (TV, MP3, FM systems etc).
