Formation of the Hearing Organs

From the sixth month of pregnancy, the sound information can reach the cortex and start that basic process for the subsequent learning of speech and, therefore, entry into the world of communication.

Clearly, the first three months of hearing system functioning inside the mother's womb are extremely important, even if the information that can reach it is incomplete. But that is already sufficient for building the basis and preparing the cortex for the more difficult and complex task to be carried out after birth.

On coming into the world, the newborn encounters a much more complex world of sounds and noise than that inside the mother's womb, and immediately starts learning and remembering them: this is the ground work that will enable the cortex to prepare for speech, and the first attempts begin when baby is between 10 and 18 months of age.

Oral communication closely depends on hearing, therefore it is all-important to keep hearing integral and efficient for as long as possible.
